Some restaurants name dishes for marketing. At Mineo's, the names on the menu belong to people: Dom, Mama Rose, Gio and John, whose Special has been a fixture since 1958.
Dom's arancini are four rice balls of Arborio rice, cheese, ham, peas and ground beef, lightly fried and served with marinara or meat dipping sauce.
The wings come with five homemade sauces: hot mango habanero, barbecue, mild buffalo, garlic Parmesan, and the lemon rosemary from Mama Rose's recipe.
Gio's Greens & Beans is escarole, white beans and fresh garlic in a savory chicken broth, served with garlic bread. You can take a quart home from the Take It Home counter, along with dough balls and sauce by the pint.
Dessert closes with Prantl's Burnt Almond Torte: yellow cake, a custard layer, buttercream and toasted sugared almonds.
